Back around April, with the threat to Summer heat still a couple of months away, my husband and I started talking about buying some new room air conditioners. We inherited the ones we had from the previous owners of our house. They were reliable old dinosaurs—old being the operative word. Thirty-year-old window units are not very energy efficient, not to mention not very attractive. So we started our investigation of central air.
It works flawlessly to cool the entire downstairs. It operates with a remote and can be set on a timer so we can turn it on an hour or so before we get home. Like any AC, it's great at controlling humidity. And we won't see the property tax increase we would have seen with central air. Nicest of all was the price--$4,600. We invested another $375 for three new upstairs widow units, bringing the grand total to just under $5,000. That's a far cry from $20,000. Cool, huh?
